Book review (June) – The Kite Runner

Under the banner of Silver Oak University IEEE Women In Engineering Student Branch Affinity Group, Paperback Pals book club hosted a book review of "The Kite Runner," narrated by Khaled Hosseini focusing on themes of redemption, friendship, and cultural identity.

The event commenced with the facilitator wholeheartedly welcoming the members and setting the tone for the session "The Kite Runner", a compelling narration of Khaled Hosseini. For the initial activity, all the attendees shared their personal anecdote on the significance of kites in their childhood.

The conversation flowed effortlessly, with stories of kite-flying competitions, tangled strings, and the simple joys of watching them stare in the sky, creating a shared experience that created a sense of community. Following this, a brief summary of the book was conducted which highlighted the themes of friendship, betrayal, redemption, and the complexities of human relationships.

Moreover, the group delved into the novel's most pivotal moments and harrowing events that irrevocably altered the course of the story as well as the characters’ lives, reflecting on the scene's raw emotional impact and resonating with their own understanding of forgiveness. As the session prevailed, participants passionately shared their interpretations of the character's motivations and the profound themes of redemption and moral ambiguity.

The discussion turned interactive as attendees started participating in activity “debate and dilemma”, discussing the moral implications of the characters' actions that showcased the book's ability to evoke diverse perspectives. Towards the end the attendees personally surfed through the book and shared their favourite quotes and lines from the book, revealing different standpoints present in the session.

Conclusion:

The celebration of writer Khaled Hosseini’s "The Kite Runner" was a delightful and immersive experience for book enthusiasts. It combined a deep appreciation of the author's work with interactive elements that engaged and entertained attendees, leaving everyone with a renewed admiration and understanding of differences in culture and their affiliation with subsequent politics.
