Walkathon- WIE Walk for Charity

Introduction

The aim of the Silver Oak University IEEE Student Branch always has been tending to the growth and development of the students. To celebrate “Women in engineering” day, Silver Oak University IEEE WIE Affinity Group has come up with a charity event called “Walkathon-WIE Walk for Charity” to promote gender equality and to build a society with equal opportunity for all.

A Walkathon – WIE walk for charity organised by Silver Oak University IEEE WIE Affinity Group along with IEEE WIE Gujarat Section.

The event started at 6:00 am with a warm welcome speech by Nikeeta Sangani and Om Prajapati, about the event and what WIE is with explanation of why we celebrate WIE day every year; also sharing the work of the Silver Oak University IEEE WIE AG, such as providing a platform to enhance women through technical interaction & personal development.

The walk began at Riverfront to the sports club of NID where the participants turned around at the midpoint of the event after 2 km and received a purple band as proof that the halfway of the walkathon had been completed. Participants were also provided with refreshments. After the returning from the midpoint, the participants walked to an end which was 2 km away.

We arranged an award ceremony following the event. There were three categories of winners, who received prizes while other participants received E-certificates. In the first place, the prize went to the first female finisher of the four-kilometre walkathon, another prize to the first male finisher, and also to the best volunteer.

Conclusion

We collected a great number of donations from the participants in this event. The donation will be given to JG orphanage, Ahmedabad as charity. With this event, we successfully promoted to women’s equality and empowerment.
