AWS Seminar

Venue: Millennium Hall

In today’s world if you see everything is involved with technology somewhere or with something. Especially if we talk about the computers which have brought a revolution in the world. But there are some exceptions to which individual or an organization’s faces some problems which are sometimes difficult to figure out. Each and every day a more powerful computer releases in market and demand increases for it. So coming to the point which is Cloud Computing, it has become a very essential/major part of computing services such as servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics and more over the Internet. Companies offering these computing services are called cloud providers and typically charge for cloud computing services based on usage, similar to how you are billed for water or electricity at home.

So we “IEEE SOCET SB” of Silver Oak Group of Institutes conducted a seminar on Amazon Web Services which is considered as one of the largest company providing such vast services to us. We invited Dr.Kalpesh Parikh Sir with 35 years of IT experience having education qualification – Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), Computer and Information Sc who is also the founder of SKETT for conducting the seminar.

Starting off the event

Mr. Satvik Khara (HOD CE, SOCET) facilitate Dr.Kalpesh Parikh Sir. Then the event was hand over to Dr.Kalpesh. Sir started with a deep explanation about carrying your career further and how to stable it. Presenting about wealth generation and knowledge product. He also discussed how recruiters see you and how you see yourself.

Coming to Cloud Computing

Dr.Kalpesh Sir asked students what do they know about Cloud Computing and its application. Sir started explaining it that it is a utility which we cannot assume how much we will need the power to complete our work. It only charges for as much as you consume. You can purchase according to peak load, invest in advance, upgradation is easy.

EC2 and related

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is a web service that provides secure, resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale cloud computing easier for developers.

Amazon EC2’s simple web service interface allows you to obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction. It provides you with complete control of your computing resources and lets you run on Amazon’s proven computing environment. Amazon EC2 reduces the time required to obtain and boot new server instances to minutes, allowing you to quickly scale capacity, both up and down, as your computing requirements change. Amazon EC2 changes the economics of computing by allowing you to pay only for capacity that you actually use. Amazon EC2 provides developers the tools to build failure resilient applications and isolate them from common failure scenarios.

After explaining what amazon EC2 is, Sir showed us how create an ec2 instance with free trial. Sir also told us about the AWS educate program from Amazon which helps university students to experience how cloud actually works and how easily it does your work and save your time. GTU giving affiliated colleges students nearly 75-100$ to experience AWS services. The session end with a few students asking doubts regarding cloud computing. Students were enthusiastic to learn about cloud computing and they enjoyed and learned a lot from this seminar. There were two sessions conducted one after another.

The session ended by Chirayu giving a vote of thanks to Dr.Kalpesh Parikh Sir for coming and educating students about what is cloud computing and why it is and will be necessary for the future.
